The more intense followers of the funk may recognize Stanton Moore as the drummer for New Orleans-based gris-gris funksters Galactic. Others may simply know him as one of those exclusive class of skinsmen who can alter your posture with one well-timed stroke on the snare. Don’t believe me? Check out his All Kooked Out (Fog City FCCD 002 62:53). Even though Moore can kick ass with the best of them, subtlety and slyness are his forte. And he picks up some serious cross rhythmic incentives from bandmates Charlie Hunter, Michael Ray, tubaist Matt Perrine and saxophonist Skerik, of Tuatara and Critters Buggin. Thrown together on this live-in-the-studio date, they add secret sauce to the homey, lived-in feel that runs throughout the disc. “Nalgas” kicks with a JB style, while “Common Ground” and “Green Chimneys” are insinuating. Essential for those who can’t get enough of that Bayou water spawned stuff.
