Jimmy McGriff: Tribute to Count Basie

Imagine Basie on a Hammond B-3 with his band alternately roaring and riffing under him on items like “Cute,” “Splanky,” “L’il Darlin'” and “Swingin’ the Blues” and you get the picture. This 1966 recording features three different groups paying homage to the Count. McGriff steeps everything in his blues boiler with marvelous results and the inclusion of Kenny Burrell or Barry Galbraith on rhythm guitar gives this short count CD a real Basie feeling.
