Apropos of arrangers, nostalgia lovers may or may not like-depending on their degrees of purism-what they’ve done to the renowned Les Brown on Session #55 (Doc Hollywood 3956700062; 65:40). This is a slickly produced homage by Les Brown Jr., combining old and new charts and in some cases updating the original arrangements. The addition of newcomer Jane Monheit and veteran Lou Rawls doesn’t help. Each has a style of singing that is incompatible with the intent of the project-an undertaking better suited for those who are swing-dance addicts. In other words, dance to all 21 tracks; it’s not a listening experience.
