Matthew Kaminski: Taking My Time

The resident organist at Turner Field, the Atlanta Braves’ ballpark, Matthew Kaminski struts his jazzy stuff on covers of Lou Donaldson’s funky “Hot Dog” and Richard “Groove” Holmes’ uptempo blues romp “Sweatin’,” along with swinging renditions of standards “It Might as Well Be Spring” and “Where or When” and a gorgeous take on “Moonlight in Vermont.” The title track is Kaminski’s lazy second-line groover, while his quirky-funky “Flip the Lid” features some robust soloing from tenor saxophonist E.J Hughes and guitarist Charles Loehle, both potent improvisers throughout.
