Things are writ large in this trio, the propulsive swing of bassist Gagnon, the piano moods of Calderazzo, the Elvin Jones-styled drumming of Watts. The program begins with the aggressive medium tempo groove of the bassist’s “Odyssee,” moves to the dark rumination of the pianist’s “Catania” and, after five more performances, ends with a teasing version of “The More I See You.” Technique presents no problem to this fine group, nor does the ability to swing and swing and swing-together.
