Conguera Santana, a mainstay on Denver’s Latin jazz scene, goes for an upbeat Latin-funk-jazz crossover vibe on her appealing debut as a leader. Alto saxophonist Richie Cole guests on salsafied renditions of Azymuth’s “Partido Alto” and Freddie Hubbard’s “Red Clay” (featuring trumpeter Greg Gisbert) along with covers of Carlos Santana’s “Luz Amor Y Vida,” James Taylor’s “Walking Man” and Lila Downs’ “Dignificando.” Wendy Fopeano contributes soulful, alluring vocals on Bebel Gilberto’s “Close Your Eyes” and Djavan’s “Oceano.”
