This Keller CD features tunes by Ron Miller. Most illustrate a different technique of composition (reharmonization, odd modality, the Monk approach, etc.), but all exemplify-as Keller says-jazz romanticism. The tunes and performances recall the Miles Davis/Wayne Shorter/Herbie Hancock connection. Keller’s tenor and soprano, Scott Wendholt’s trumpet, John Fedchock’s trombone, Kenny Werner’s piano, Drew Gress’ bass, and Billy Hart’s drums (yes!) are all on target for solving Miller’s musical challenges.
