Portuguese-born guitarist-composer turns in another thoughtful, tastefully swinging outing with his lonstanding crew of saxophonist Chris Cheek, drummer Ference Nemeth, bassist Peter Slavov and keyboardist Leo Genovese. Nice fuzz-inflected guitar work in some fiery call-and-response exchanges with Cheek’s clarinet on the edgy, drum ‘n’ bass-ish title track. Elsewhere, soothing tones and airy melodies prevail, as on the ballad “Budejovica,” the harmonically rich “Think Again” and the poignant “You Just Won Another Day With Yourself.” Vocalist Gretchen Parlato lends a dreamy quality to “Early Shift” and “The Thing With Feathers.”
