David Friedman/Jasper Van’t Hof: Birds of a Feather

The Friedman-Van’t Hof duo (vibes or marimba and piano, respectively) stretches the definition of jazz on Birds of a Feather. This lyrical European music owes as much to classical music as to jazz. The playing is superb but, in my book, a bit boring. There is an obvious similarity to the Gary Burton-Chick Corea duets but without as much swing.
