McKibbon’s Latin recording career goes all the way back to “Manteca” with Dizzy in 1948. He has worked the whole scope of jazz and show business, as well. This album finds him mostly in a supportive role, providing big-toned, springy Latin grooves on “Off Minor,” “Tin Tin Deo,” “I Mean You,” “Cubano Chant,” et al. Reedmen Charles Owen and Justo Almario, pianist Phil Wright, and percussionists Jose “Papo” Rodriguez and Ramon Banda handle their duties with a pleasing sense of melody and an infectious sense of rhythm. A very likeable and well-proportioned album.
