Wayne Shorter to Play in L.A. Saturday

Saxophone legend will perform at Los Angeles Jazz Society Awards

Saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter will play this Saturday, Oct. 21, with members of the Thelonious Monk Institute at the 29th annual Los Angeles Jazz Society tribute awards show honoring Shorter and others. The event takes place from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City. The event will include dinner as well as the concert and awards presentation.

Other honorees and performers include vocalist Denise Donatelli, who will perform with her trio, and arranger/composer Gordon Goodwin, who will play with the Big Phat Band. Accepting the honor for Lifetime Achievement is jazz guitarist John Pisano, who has played alongside Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and others. Jamael Dana Dean will receive the honor for New Talent. Dean is a 14-year-old jazz pianist who is already creating a sensation in the Los Angeles jazz scene.

The Hilton is located at 555 Universal Hollywood Drive at Universal City.
