Toronto’s JAZZ.FM91 Announces 2011-2012 Concert Schedule

Jane Bunnett, Jay Leonhart, Lew Tabackin among featured artists.

Toronto’s JAZZ.FM91 2011-2012 Sound of Jazz Concert Series will return this fall for its 36th season. Ten concerts are scheduled, running from October 2011 through March 2012 at the Old Mill Inn, Toronto, on Monday nights at 8:00PM.

The season kicks off October 3 with “It’s Impossible to Swing and Play the Bass” with bassist and songwriter, Jay Leonhart. It continues with the Aaron Weinstein Duo on November 15. The program on November 28 features vocalist Claire Martin.

An addition this season is JAZZ.FM91’s two Latin-jazz focused concerts: Bossa Nova for Lovers,” with Gord Sheard and Barbra Lica, and “Havana Nights,” featuring Luis Mario Ochoa, Hilario Duran and Jane Bunnett, among others. Rounding out the 2011-2012 Sound of Jazz Concert Series are tributes to some of the giants in jazz, including, George Shearing by the Don Thompson Quintet, featuring Shearing alumnae; Jimmy Smith by his friend Joey DeFrancesco and his Trio; and Oscar Peterson by the Dave Young Quintet. The JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band will perform with saxophone legend Lew Tabackin.
