Steven Bernstein’s MTO Covers Sly Stone

Special guests include Bernie Worrell, Bill Laswell, Vernon Reid

Steven Bernstein’s Millennial Territory Orchestra is releasing MTO Plays Sly (Royal Potato Family), a collection of interpretations of songs by the legendary R&B/rock hybrid Sly and the Family Stone. The group’s third album, the 13-track set includes several prominent guests: Antony Hegarty, Bernie Worrell, Bill Laswell, Dean Bowman, Martha Wainwright, Sandra St. Victor, Shilpa Ray and Vernon Reid. The album includes such durable Sly hits as “M’Lady,” “Everyday People” and “Family Affair.” Both the CD and LP versions of the release include extensive liner notes by Bernstein and music historian Greg Tate, along with photos from the recording sessions.

MTO is trumpeter Steven Bernstein plus Peter Apfelbaum, Doug Wieselman, Erik Lawrence, Curtis Fowlkes, Charlie Burnham, Matt Munisteri, Ben Allison and Ben Perowsky. The group will perform the following dates:
