Steve Turre will be among the performers Aug 2-11

A tribute to the late multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk will take place on five nights between Aug. 2 and Aug. 11 at the Cafe Stritch in San Jose, Calif. (formerly Eulipia Restaurant). The program will include three nights of performances by trombonist Steve Turre, plus a number of activities revolving around Kirk’s life and work. Betty Neals will perform her poem “Theme for the Eulipions” with Turre’s group.

Turre, who played with Kirk in the late ’60s, will perform as part of a sextet on August 8-10. Kirk’s widow Dorthaan will attend all of the activities during the five-day tribute. The band will include Matt Clark on piano, Howard Wiley on tenor sax, Charles McNeal on alto sax, Marcus Shelby on bass, and Darrell Green on drums.
