Myra Melford to Premiere “Language of Dreams” in San Francisco

New work incorporates music, words, movement and video

Pianist and composer Myra Melford will present the world premiere of her new work Language of Dreams at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Forum in San Francisco on Nov. 8-9. The venue is located at 701 Mission Street and shows begin at 8 p.m. According to a press release, Language of Dreams incorporates “music, words, movement and video imagery … Melford invokes reflection and provokes dialogue about our collective histories and our path forward as Americans’ in the broadest sense, recognizing our diverse cultures and landscapes as well as the tensions and harmonies that define us.”

Melford’s newest work , according to the release, “draws its inspiration from the composer’s deep fascination with Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano’s Memory of Fire trilogy.

Language of Dreams was commissioned by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and features Myra Melford’s Snowy Egret, with Ron Miles (cornet), Liberty Ellman (guitar), Stomu Takeishi (bass guitar), and Jeff Davis (drums). Other artistic collaborators are dancer/choreographer Oguri, video artist David Szlasa, vocalist Sofia Rei, and producer Hans Wendl.
