A memorial service for clarinetist Joe Muranyi will be held next Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street, New York City. Muranyi, who passed away at age 84 on April 20, was best known as the final clarinetist with Louis Armstrong and His All Stars, performing and recording with the group from 1967 until Armstrong’s death in 1971. Muranyi also performed with such musicians as Roy Eldridge, Red Allen, Eddie Condon, Lionel Hampton, and the World’s Greatest Jazz Band. The memorial service will include performances by many musicians who knew Muranyi. The service will be followed by a reception.
