Made in New York Jazz Competition Winners Announced

Winner Anita Vitale performed with Bobby McFerrin

The Made in New York Jazz Competition has announced its first winners. Taking first prize was Italy’s Anita Vitale, whose acoustic performance of Jon Hendricks’ “Centerpiece” with Bobby McFerrin was the competition committee’s choice before becoming the unanimous selection of judges Lenny White, Joe Lovano and Randy Brecker.

In addition to winning a cash prize of $3,878, Vitale will perform in New York with Brecker and White at the Made in New York Jazz Competition Gala Concert at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 3, at 8.00 p.m.

Runners Up

Second prize goes to Evgeny Lebedev’s World Trio for their original composition, while third prize went to the NGA Big Band from Germany for their rendition of Bob Brookmeyer’s “The American Express
