Macy Gray and David Murray to Play Joint Gigs in NYC

Singer and saxophonist will be backed by 16-piece big band

Vocalist Macy Gray will joining saxophonist David Murray’s Big Band for a three-night run New York’s Iridium Jan. 11-13. Murray has composed what is described in a press release as “a brand new repertory for the show that includes bold new arrangements of Gray’s hits and brand new original compositions written specifically for the show.”

Murray and Gray this year at Paris’ Jazz A La Villette, the London Jazz Festival and the Netherlands’ North Sea Jazz Festival. The Iridium run will mark the New York premiere of the show, which features a 16-piece band.

Gray also joined Murray in the studio to contribute vocals to the song “Be My Monster Love,” which will be performed at the Iridium and will appear on Murray’s new album of the same name, to be released next fall on Motema.
