This Monday, Oct. 23, Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village will host an all-star Latin-jazz concert to benefit, via the Jazz Foundation of America, musicians in Puerto Rico. Helming the event is percussionist and bandleader Bobby Sanabria, whose acclaimed Multiverse Big Band will be joined by very special guests including NEA Jazz Masters Paquito D’Rivera, Jimmy Owens and Candido; Fania All-Stars Larry Harlow and Eddie Montalvo; trumpet greats Randy Brecker and Jon Faddis; singers Antoinette Montague and Brenda Feliciano; poets Mariposa and Felipe Luciano (a veteran of the proto-hip-hop Last Poets); and the legendary composer and musician David Amram. There will also be surprise guests, and the Monday-night date holds special meaning: Le Poisson Rouge is the site of the former Village Gate club, which hosted a long-running and influential “Salsa Meets Jazz” series on Monday evenings.
Four ticket options are available, with an opportunity to donate more to the cause at the event: $100 VIP Meet and Greet and Gold Circle Seating; $50 Gold Circle Seating; $35 General Admission Seating; $25 General Admission Standing. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the show begins at 7:30.
