Diana Krall’s new album, The Look of Love, debuted at number 9 on Billboard’s top 200 for the week of Sept. 27, selling over 94,000 units. This marks the first time an album by a traditional jazz artist has debuted in Billboard’s Top 10. Accomplishing this feat places Krall in the company of rapper Jay-Z (who took the number 1 spot) and fellow singer/pianist Tori Amos (at number 6).
The album, released Sept. 18 by Verve, features Krall singing standards and popular songs like “The Night We Called It A Day ” and “Besame Mucho.” The London Symphony Orchestra, playing arrangements by Claus Ogermann, backs Krall and her band throughout the record.
Krall will begin a world tour this month and will make television appearances throughout the fall.
