New Orleans fest features all-star jazz -- plus roots, rock and Louisiana music

The 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, a.k.a. Jazz Fest, runs April 27 to May 6 at the Fair Grounds Race Course, and features its customary blend of A-list pop, R&B and rock headliners—Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin, Jack White, Jimmy Buffett—with Louisiana musicians, American-roots standouts and jazz ranging from local favorites to internationally renowned artists. Below is a list of scheduled performers of particular note to JT readers:

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Aaron Neville, George Benson, Irma Thomas, Jon Batiste with the Dap-Kings, Archie Shepp Quartet featuring vocalist Marion Rampa, Buddy Guy, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, jazz-inspired tap-dancer Savion Glover, Leslie Odom Jr., Charles Lloyd and the Marvels with special guest Lucinda Williams, Galactic, Dianne Reeves, the Ron Carter Trio, Kermit Ruffins’ tribute to Louis Armstrong, a Jazz Fest celebration of New Orleans’ tri-centennial, Terence Blanchard featuring the E-Collective, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, John Boutté, a tribute to Jelly Roll Morton featuring Henry Butler, Nicholas Payton, Don Vappie’s tribute to King Oliver and Lena Prima paying tribute to her father, Louis Prima.
