Jazz at Lincoln Center will celebrates the music of Israel “Cachao” López, the Cuban bassist and composer and credited as the inventor of mambo, on Jan. 20-21. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by Carlos Henriquez, will perform López’s work at the Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, New York.

Before joining the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, teenaged bassist Henriquez was in the Latin jazz bands of Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri. Henriquez will use that experience to lead his JLCO band mates down a musical road paved by the great Cachao.

A free pre-concert discussion will take place nightly at 7 p.m.
