JALC Announces Michael Feinstein’s Jazz & Popular Song Series for 2012

Ethel Waters, Cy Coleman to be celebrated at Allen Room

Jazz at Lincoln Center has announced that Michael Feinstein will again direct Jazz & Popular Song, a series of performances of music from the Great American Songbook. The first concerts in the 2012 series pay tribute to Ethel Waters and will take place on May 1 and 2, with Feinstein, stage and film actress Adriane Lenox and musical director Tedd Firth all performing.

Upcoming Jazz & Popular Song shows will include “Cy Coleman: Bringing Jazz to Broadway” (in which Feinstein, Chuck Cooper, Tamara Tunie and Michele Lee will perform), taking place on May 15 and 16, and “Sweet & Low Down: How Popular Standards Became Jazz Classics” on June 5 and 6 (with a matinee on June 10). That last program will feature Feinstein, Jessie Mueller, Loston Harris and more.

The series takes place at the Allen Room at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, N.Y.
