It’s Pat! Metheny Group’s Upcoming CD

Guitarist Pat Metheny (pictured left) and his partner in crime, keyboardist Lyle Mays, haven’t tinkered with the formula for the upcoming Pat Metheny Group CD, Speaking of Now (Warner Bros.), but they have tinkered with the Group: new members include trumpeter-vocalist Cuong Vu and bassist-vocalist Richard Bona, though he only plays percussion along with new drummer Antonio Sanchez, and croons with the Group; Steve Rodby still plays the acoustic bass.

The upcoming Speaking of Now, scheduled for a late Feb. 2002 release, is the Group’s first album since 1997’s Imaginary Day; Metheny has spent the past few years gigging and recording with his Trio. The album is still the accessible, wide-screen jazz with electronic embellishments and world-beat vibes that have made the Group one of the world’s most popular instrumental bands, appealing to fans and critics alike.
