Istanbul Jazz Festival Set for July 3-19

Marcus Miller will premiere new work, ‘The Istanbul Project’

The 19th Istanbul Jazz Festival will take place July 3-19, with performances planned at more than 20 venues throughout the largest city in Turkey. Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the festival will feature more than 50 concerts starring more than 300 local and international artists. Concerts will be held at such locations as Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theatre, Istanbul Archaeology Museum, Istanbul Modern, Salon İKSV and the Marmara Esma Sultan, as well as Bilgi University santralistanbul Kıyı Amfi. Haliç Congress Center and Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum will be used for the first time as the festival venues.

A highlight of the festival is expected to be the world premiere of “The Istanbul Project” by bassist/composer Marcus Miller, which will bring together Turkish musicians and others to mark the 40th anniversary of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts.

Keith Jarrett will perform in Istanbul for the first time since 1996, with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette.

The Tünel Feast, which presents a festival within the festival with its numerous concerts, workshops and events, will be held in the streets and various venues of Beyoğlu and Galata areas.
