The 21st annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival is scheduled for August 23-25 at various locations in New York City, beginning with Jimmy Heath and His Big Band performing a new arrangement of Heath’s orchestration of the works of Charlie Parker originally commissioned by CPJF in 2004 and reworked for a big band, entitled “Bird Is The Word.” Also scheduled to perform at the festival this year are saxophonists Kenny Garrett and Lee Konitz, vocalist Sheila Jordan, trumpeter Christian Scott, emerging vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant, drummer Kim Thompson, alto saxophonist Jaleel Shaw and multi-instrumentalist Warren Wolf.
