On March 11-13, Ars Nova Workshop will be presenting performances celebrating the work of Vijay Iyer, Steve Lehman and Tyshawn Sorey who comprise the group Fieldwork. The members will perform separately and together over the three-day period in a presentation called Composer Portrait. In addition, JT’s own Nate Chinen will host a public discussion with the artists before the performance of chamber works by Iyer and Lehman, played by the JACK quartet. All of the performances will take place at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theatre, 20 North American Street in Philadelphia.

“The goal of this composer portrait series is to highlight both the collective prowess of Fieldwork and the compositional voice of each individual member of the trio,” said Mark Christman, founder and executive director of Ars Nova. “Providing such an intimate glimpse into the work of young avant-garde composers is not just uncommon but unprecedented, and Vijay, Steve, and Tyshawn are three artists whose complex and wide-ranging work demands extraordinary focus.”

Here is the schedule of events for Composer Portrait: Fieldwork.

March 11: Tyshawn Sorey’s For Kathy Change 8pm

March 12: Fieldwork 8 pm

March 13: Free Public Discussion with Fieldwork and Nate Chinen 6pm
