Texas event gives students opportunity to interact with musicians

On March 24th, composer/bandleader Darcy James Argue and his big band, Secret Society, will be the featured guest artists at the 50th annual Tarleton Jazz Festival at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Tex.

This festival is designed to give junior high and high school musicians the opportunity to both hear and interact with prominent professionals from the jazz world. Previous guest artists include the Count Basie Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson, Bob Mintzer, David “Fathead” Newman, Rufus Reid and Maria Schneider.

Secret Society will perform music from its Grammy-nominated debut, Infernal Machines (New Amsterdam Records), as well as selections from the score of its multimedia extravaganza Brooklyn Babylon and other unrecorded material.
