Critic and Rifftides Blogger Doug Ramsey Releases Novel

A regular JazzTimes contributor since 1975, Doug Ramsey (pictured) has written his first novel, entitled Poodie James and now available for purchase. The publisher is Libros Libertad, an independent publishing house based in British Columbia. The book’s title character is deaf, and while music is not a central theme nor is a major character a musician, music does still factor into the story.

Ramsey’s most recent work was the award-winning Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond, published in 2005. He is also the author of Jazz Matters: Reflections on the Music and Some of Its Makers, and has contributed to The Oxford Companion to Jazz. His blog, Rifftides: Doug Ramsey on jazz and other matters is a favorite among his fellow jazz journalists and aficionados. A resident of the Pacific Northwest, Ramsey is currently at work on another novel.
