On Nov. 4, from 6-7:30 p.m., the O’Farrill family of Latin jazz musicians is hosting a musical tribute to composer, arranger and bandleader Chico O’Farrill at Birdland in New York. The tribute is being held in honor of what would have been patriarch Chico’s 91st birthday. The event, which has become an annual celebration, will feature brothers Zach and Adam O’Farrill with their sextet performing their grandfather’s works “Under Current Blues” and “Havana Blues” in new arrangements and orchestrations made for a smaller ensemble. Grammy award-winning pianist Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Live Jazz Orchestra will perform classic works by Chico and Fathers and Sons: From Havana to New York and Back by Arturo.

Birdland was home to the Chico O’Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra for 15 years. Now Arturo and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra perform two sets every Sunday night at 9 and 11.

Birdland is located at 315 W. 44th in Manhattan. Admission is $30. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. For further information phone 212-581-3080 or visit Birdland.
