Blue Note Entertainment Group in partnership with L21 Participacões has recently announced that it is expanding to South America, with Blue Note Rio set to open in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this August. The Rio location is BNEG’s eighth worldwide, joining jazz clubs in New York, N.Y.; Napa, California; Waikiki, Hawaii; Milan, Italy; Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan and Beijing, China.
Located in the Lagoa neighborhood which borders both Copacabana and Ipanema, Blue Note Rio will have a capacity of 350 patrons and will present two shows nightly, with a full-course menu available. The building to house the club currently is under renovation.
In a press release sent to JazzTimes, president of BNEG Steven Bensusan says, “Opening Blue Note Rio is a dream come true. Brazilian music has played a crucial role in Blue Note’s history, with many iconic Brazilian artists performing at our venues. We have also seen substantial growth in audience attendance from South America over the last several years. Rio’s dynamic history and global culture make it the perfect location to open our first venue in South America. We look forward to our collaboration with Luiz Calainho and the L21 team.”
The initial entertainment schedule is TBD. For more information visit bluenoterio.com.br (in Portuguese).
