Berklee College of Music’s student run jazz label is celebrating the release of its seventh compilation CD this month with a concert on Thursday, April 22. Birds of a Feather, released by Jazz Revelation Records (JRR), features original compositions by 11 Berklee students. The concert will be held at the Berklee Performance Center at 8:15 p.m.

The CD features styles ranging from traditional and contemporary jazz to classical and electronica. The international group of student musicians hail from an array of countries including Turkey, Brazil, Japan and India, alongside students from the United States. Birds of a Feather will be available for purchase on CDBaby and iTunes as well as at the concert.

Among the artists on the record are pianist Nikolas Anadolis, a Berklee Presidential Scholar from Thessaloniki, Greece; pianists Lihi Haruvi and Ronen Shmueli who served together in the Israeli army orchestra before coming to Berklee; and Italo Cunha, a 17-year-old jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, student, and teacher from Brasilia, Brazil, who started playing piano at four and guitar at nine.

Joining them are Roy Guzman, a guitarist and composer from Cupey, Puerto Rico, who leads the Roy Guzman Quintet that performed at George Wein’s Jazz Festival 55 in Newport, R.I; Tom Kain, a Music Production & Engineering and Performance major from Moorestown, N.J., who oversaw JRR’s 2009 CD Dedication; and Nathan Cepelinski, a saxophonist and composer from Ottawa, Canada, and recipient of five Downbeat student awards in high school.

JRR, founded in 2003, is an all student run label responsible for all aspects of the recording process from choosing the artists to producing, engineering and promoting the album. Visit the label’s page on CDBaby for albums and information.

Kain, Haruvi, Cepelinski and Guzman will be joined by fellow student artists Christoph Huber, Utar Dundarartun, Kazuyo Kuriya for the concert performance. Tickets are $10, $5 for seniors. For tickets and information call 617-747-2261 or visit Berklee Performance Center.
