The 24th edition of the Vail Jazz Festival, an extended summer program that includes 75 performances and 200 artists, will take place from July 1 to Sept. 3 in Vail, Colo., with six distinct concert series.
The series are Vail Jazz @ The Market, featuring a rotating lineup of acclaimed regional acts every Sunday afternoon beginning July 1 at the Vail Farmers Market; Vail Jazz @ The Remedy, in which pianist/vocalist Tony Gulizia and drummer Brian Loftus perform each Sunday night, joined by visiting musicians, at The Remedy in the Four Seasons Resort; Jazz @ Vail Square, a weekly Thursday-night performance inside an all-weather Jazz Tent at the center of Lionshead Village; Jazz @ Riverwalk, with music every Friday evening at the Riverwalk Backyard Amphitheater in Edwards; the Vail Jazz Club Series, featuring music in a jazz club atmosphere at the Sonnenalp Hotel every Wednesday; and the Vail Jazz Party, a 35-hour marathon lineup of music that stretches across the entire Labor Day weekend.
On July 9, the festival will host a gala performance by vocalist Carol Bach-y-Rita with pianist Bill Cunliffe and Vail Jazz Workshop alumni. The house band for the Vail Jazz Party will also feature Cunliffe, along with trumpeter Terell Stafford, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, bassist John Clayton, and drummer Lewis Nash.
Other performers slated to appear at the festival include Nachito Herrera, the Django Festival Allstars, Tony DeSare and H2 Big Band, Andrea Motis featuring Joel Frahm, Nicki Parrott’s Tribute to Peggy Lee, Veronica Swift, and Akiko Tsuruga with Graham Dechter and Jeff Hamilton.
