The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced its MetLiveArts programming for the 2017-18 season, including three jazz events taking place at Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium.
Thelonious Monk at 100
On Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., Min Xiao-Fen’s Blue Pipa Trio (Min on pipa, sanxian and voice; Dean Johnson, bass; Steve Salerno, guitar), trumpeter Arturo O’Farrill and violinist/oudist Zafer Tawil will pay tribute to Thelonious Monk through Monk-inspired originals and reworkings of classic compositions. Band details for O’Farrill and Tawil are still TBD.
Charles Lloyd and The Marvels
On Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m., saxophonist Charles Lloyd with his band The Marvels (Greg Leisz, pedal steel guitar; Reuben Rogers, bass; Eric Harland, drums) will perform a concert of traditional hymns, anti-war protest songs and originals in celebration of Lloyd’s upcoming 80th birthday.
The Robert Glasper Trio
On Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., the Robert Glasper Trio (Glasper, keyboards; Vicente Archer, bass; Damion Reid, drums) will perform a holiday-themed set as part of the Met’s holiday concert series.
