Long delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque’s U.S. tour to support its 2019 album On Firm Ground/Tierra Firme is now underway, having begun at the end of February with two nights at Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia. The all-woman sextet—three-time Grammy Award nominee and five-time Juno Award winner Bunnett on soprano saxophone and flute; Joanna Tendai Majoko on vocals; Mary Paz on congas and vocals; Dánae Olano on piano; Tailin Marrero on acoustic and electric bass; and Yissy García on drums—is scheduled to perform in six states from now through March 19, concluding with five nights (10 shows total) at Birdland in New York City.

Originally formed in 2013 as a loose project to support a new generation of young female jazz musicians and composers in Cuba, Maqueque has become a full-fledged band with three albums under its collective belt. For more information about the group, visit
