Michael Brecker Cancer Benefit Concert Coming to JALC

“The Nearness of You Concert,” a benefit for cancer research honoring the memory of saxophonist Michael Brecker, who died from complications of leukemia in 2007, will take place Jan. 20 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. Participants include Paul Simon, James Taylor, Bobby McFerrin, Dianne Reeves, Randy Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Joey Calderazzo, Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane, Bill Evans, John Patitucci, Antonio Sanchez, Gil Goldstein, Adam Rogers, Danny Sadownick, Steve Wilson, Charles Pillow, Alex Sipiagin, Robin Eubanks, Chris Komer, Roger Rosenberg, Joyce Hammann, Mark Feldman, Lois Martin and Dave Eggar. Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are the benefit chairs, and Meredith Vieira will serve as master of ceremonies.

Proceeds from the concert will support cancer research at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and the work of Azra Raza, MD, and Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, PhD.

TICKET INFORMATION: The concert will be held in the Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets start at $200 and are available by calling Center Charge at 212-721-6500, or online at JALC or at the Jazz at Lincoln Center box office, located on the ground floor of the Time Warner Center.
