From Nov. 15-20, the Django Reinhardt NY Festival, celebrating the music of legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, will return to its home at New York’s Birdland club, featuring guitarists Dorado Schmitt and his son Amati, accordionist Ludovic Beier and violinist Pierre Blanchard, as well as bassist Xavier Nikiq and Francko Mehrstein, Dorado’s cousin, on rhythm guitar.
“Rooted in gypsy culture, the festival is authentic in ‘heart and soul,’ real atmospheric sounds of excitement and romance with rip roaring performances and beautiful melodies telling of love with ‘original music’ that brings Django’s style to today,” according to a press release.
The festival’s six nights at Birdland will include different special guests-flutist-saxophonist on Nov. 15, vocalist Jazzmeia Horn on Nov. 16, saxophonist Grace Kelly on Nov. 17, harpist Edmar Castaneda on Nov. 18-19, and saxophonist Joel Frahm on Nov. 20.
