The first wave of artists for the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival, scheduled for Aug. 4-6 in Newport R.I., has been announced. Performances will take place at Fort Adams State Park and the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino.

Headline acts include Béla Fleck performing with the original Flecktones, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Snarky Puppy, and Hudson, a quartet composed of Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, John Medeski and Larry Grenadier. Pianist Vijay Iyer will perform twice at the festival, with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith on Friday and with his quintet on Saturday.

Rising stars at this year’s festival include vocalist Andra Day making her Newport debut, and trumpeters Dominick Farinacci and Sean Jones, a prior festival performer debuting as a leader. Other acts announced include One for All, a veteran straight-ahead jazz sextet and percussionist Antonio Sanchez with his band Migration.
