The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival has announced its 2017 Discovery Act Competition winners. The competition, created and adjudicated by Paul Carr, the festival’s executive director, focuses on excellence in straight-ahead jazz. This year’s winners include vibraphonist Kelsi Bolden, vocalist Kristina Koller and AMP Trio (pianist Addison Frei, bassist Perrin Grace and drummer Matt Young). Each act will perform two 75-minute sets on the Discovery stage (schedule TBD) as part of this year’s festival.
The 2017 Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival takes place Feb. 16-19, with headline acts including Delfeayo Marsalis, Vanessa Rubin, Etienne Charles, Steve Turre, Houston Person and Réne Marie. For additional information, visit www.midatlanticjazzfestival.org.
