ELLNORA Guitar Festival Announces 2017 Lineup

Three-day festival to feature performances by guitarists Julian Lage, Rez Abbasi and many more

ELLNORA, a guitar festival taking place at Krannert Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, announced its 2017 schedule of performances and events during Sept. 14-16, 2017.  The three-day event showcases guitarists from all over the world in a variety of genres, including jazz, folk, blues, rock and world music. Among the 14 ticketed events are performances by Julian Lage & Chris Etheridge and the Rez Abbasi Quartet.  Abbasi will reprise a performance originally commissioned by the NY Guitar Festival to write and perform a score live to the 1929 silent Indian film A Throw of Dice. “It’s an hour and 14 minutes of breathtaking cinematography, brilliant acting, historic content and now a modern hybrid score of jazz, classical and Indian music,” Abbasi told JT in an email.

Kevin Breit, known for his work with Cassandra Wilson, Norah Jones and other artists, is the festival’s Ambassador Artist and will perform in a special event called Spontaneous Combustion on the festival’s opening night and will also play with the Upper York Mandolin Quartet on Saturday evening, as well as help close the festival in its Last Call! concert.
