
Headline acts for the 2017 DC JazzFest have been announced, with a wide range of leading artists slated to perform including Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper Experiment, Mary Halvorson Octet, Pat Metheny, Hiromi, Edmar Castañeda, Ron Carter, Black Violin, Kenny Garrett, Hiromi, Odean Pope Saxophone Choir and more.
In a press release sent to JazzTimes, festival executive director Sunny Sumter notes, “This year, it’s all about discovering the unexpected. Expect jazz’s best vocalists, masterclass string instrumentalists and jazz musicians from all over the world taking over the district for ten days of incredible jazz.”
This year’s festival, scheduled for June 9-18, presents 125-plus performances at over 40 venues in total.
DC JazzFest at the Howard (June 9-18)
Featured performers include Roy Haynes, Ron Carter, Russell Malone, Hiromi and Edmar Castañeda.
A Night at the Kennedy Center (June 12)
Concert Hall artists include Pat Metheny with Antonio Sanchez, Linda Oh and Gwilym Simcock. On the Millennium Stage will be Bass-ically Yours, a showcase of bass-playing bandleaders from D.C.
DC JazzFest at The Yards (June 16-18)
Featured performers include Lori Williams and Ola Onabule, Robert Glasper Experiment, Kenny Garrett, Kandace Springs, Gregory Porter, Black Violin, New Century Jazz Quintet and Youngjoo Song.
Other events taking place during the festival include Jazz ‘n Families Fun Days (prelude weekend of June 3-4), You Haven’t Done Nothin’! (date TBD), and Jazz in the ‘Hoods (June 9-18).
