The Exit Zero Jazz Festival will return to Cape May, N.J., this fall. Now in its fifth year, the festival will take place from Nov. 11-13 in a variety of venues across the beachfront, and will feature such artists as singer Cécile McLorin Salvant and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
This year, Salvant won the Best Jazz Vocal Album Grammy Award for her album For One to Love. In 2015, the Jazz Journalists Association named her Female Vocalist of the Year, and her first album WomanChild received a Grammy nomination.
A Pulitzer Prize and nine-time Grammy Award winner, Marsalis is one of the premier names in jazz. Marsalis is also known for his work in jazz education, and serves as the artistic director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. This year will be the second year in a row that he has performed at Cape May.
“The audiences for our concerts in Cape May were warm, responsive and absolutely knowledgeable about jazz. The feeling was so communal and comfortable that the orchestra couldn’t help but swing,” Marsalis said in a press release. “This music may occupy a small space in our culture, but some gigs remind you that that space is worth battling over.”
Marsalis and his quintet will headline on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Other featured acts include Jamison Ross, the Omar Sosa JOG Trio, Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, Pat Martino Organ Trio + Horns, Frank Bey Blues Revue, the Jost Project, Red Baraat, High & Mighty Brass Band, Davis Rogan, New Orleans Swamp Donkeys, Jon Regen and Philadelphia Funk Authority.
