Bassist Hal Gaylor, who worked with such artists as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Chico Hamilton, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Oscar Peterson and Charlie Parker as well as many others, died June 25 following a long illness. He was 85.
Born Harold Walden Gaylor on July 9, 1929, the musician studied at McGill University in his native Montreal and later moved to New York. Due to hearing loss, he retired from his music in 1996 and became an addictions counselor and hypnotherapist.
