The third annual Jazz Connect conference, held Jan. 8-9 at a new venue, Saint Peter’s Church in New York City, was a huge success, attracting hundreds of attendees from all segments of the jazz world: artists, journalists, media executives, etc.
This year’s keynote speaker was the acclaimed bassist and bandleader Christian McBride. The first annual Bruce Lundvall Visionary Award, named for the legendary record producer (who was in attendance and addressed the audience), was given to SFJAZZ founder Randall Kline. And more than a dozen panel discussions, workshops and plenary sessions addressed a wide range of hot-button topics concerning the jazz world today, including the effect of streaming music, marketing and branding, the state of radio and the press, obtaining grants, new developments in artists’ rights and more.
