The Montclair Jazz Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary recently, coming to a close on August 10 with performances from Bettye LaVette, Joey DeFrancesco, Mark Whitfield, Christian McBride, Eddie Palmieri, Mike Lee, and members of the Jazz House Collective, among others.
Launched as a summer workshop for Jazz House Kids, one of the country’s most successful jazz education programs, the festival included nine big bands in addition to the individual performers. It continues to feature performances from Jazz House Kids students, and more than 125 of them played during the two-week event in Montclair, N.J.
