Now in its 15th year, the 2018 PDX Jazz Festival was held February 16-25, 2018 in Portland, Ore. The festival, directed by jazz industry veteran Don Lucoff, features a series of concerts, clinics and conversations at venues throughout the the city. The 2018 program included several special cross-generational themes, such as “Vocalese” with various shows around that concept, including: a salute to Jon Hendricks led by Kurt Elling; an exploration of the legacy of Eddie Jefferson by Allan Harris and Richie Cole; and a tribute to Al Jarreau by Bobby Torres. Geri Allen’s life and music were honored in a performance by Ravi Coltrane, Esperanza Spalding and Terri Lyne Carrington.
Among the other artists who performed at the 2018 PDX Jazz Festival were Dr. Lonnie Smith, Regina Carter, Javon Jackson, Ben Allison, Julian Lage, Charnett Moffett, Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone, Abdullah Ibrahim, Russell Malone, Darrell Grant, Yotam Silberstein, Charles Tolliver, Ethan Iverson and many more.
