The second and final extended weekend of the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, from April 30-May 3, was-as usual-packed with both local and international talent spanning multiple genres. Immediately preceding the opening of the second weekend, a concert celebrating International Jazz Day (held every April 30th) took place on the steps of the New Orleans Museum of Art, which is at the southern end of City Park. The concert, which began at 10 a.m. on Thursday, featured Poncho Sanchez’s band with Terence Blanchard. Following the concert (at 11 a.m.), a parade wound its way from the museum to the festival gate.
Photographer Joel A. Siegel started his day at the museum, then joined the parade before making the rounds of the fest. Here he has included photos from the entire day’s events, including several of Terence Blanchard, who started out riding in a carriage, then got out and marched (and played) with the brass band at the front of the parade.
