In early days of jazz, the majestic and astounding trumpet reigned and was the natural leader of the band – trumpet was king. Before the shift to the saxophone as the dominant instrument of jazz, musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis, to name a few, put the trumpet in the spotlight. For this performance, your Charleston Jazz Orchestra will feature members of its trumpet section as we pay homage to the trumpet legends who shaped its sound.
