About
This 31st annual event will pay homage to the late great Randy Weston, NEA Jazz Master, pianist, composer, bandleader, teacher, activist, ambassador and scholar, who was the headline performer at Staten Island JAZZ Festival 25. The line-up includes Sun Ra Arkestra, Winard Harper & Jeli Posse, Danny Mixon Quartet, Antoinette Montague, Leopoldo Fleming Afro Caribbean Jazz Ensemble, Sylvester Scott, Karlus Trapp, Darrell Smith, Earl Sauls, Rudy Mwongozi, Kiane Zawadi and Jeannine Otis playing in the historical Music Hall.
Prior to the main concert, jazz-themed workshops will be held at venues on the beautiful grounds of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden. Workshops include Dance, Music, and Vocal (Building G) and a Collage workshop, inspired by the late renowned African-American artist Romare Bearden, which will be held at the Art Lab. The morning workshops will culminate in a panel discussion titled “The History & Future of Jazz,” moderated by Sheila Anderson.
