The Rio Americano High School Mingus Combo is a seven piece jazz ensemble that is dedicated to studying and performing the music of the great bassist and composer, Charles Mingus.

Each year, the group assembled with the goal of being accepted to perform at the prestigious Charles Mingus Festival & Competition, hosted by the New School in New York City. The ensemble has made the trip nine out of the past 10 years, learning from and playing with the world’s leading authorities on the music of Mingus.
